If rbc.com/activate won’t load or your card won’t activate, the most common cause is a browser or connection problem. Try a different browser or clear your cache, then try again. If it still fails, activate by phone instead.

The activation page won’t load

1

Check the address

Make sure you typed rbc.com/activate exactly, and the browser shows a padlock icon.
2

Clear your cache and cookies

Clear your browser data, then reload the page.
3

Turn off VPN or ad blockers

These can block banking pages from loading correctly.
4

Try another browser or device

Switch to an up-to-date browser, or use the RBC Mobile app.

Other causes

Double-check every digit against your card. If you use Online Banking, confirm you selected the new card on the Accounts Summary page.
A cancelled or closed card can’t be activated online. Call 1-800-769-2512 to reactivate it.
You don’t need Online Banking to activate. Go to rbc.com/activate without signing in, or activate by phone.
Call the Private Banking line at 1-888-769-2585.

If that didn’t work

Call RBC at 1-800-769-2512 (personal and business cards). Have your new card ready and note any error message you saw.
Avoid sites or phone numbers that claim to offer “activation help” and ask for your card number, PIN, or password. Use only official RBC channels.
